Artist's Book

It all started with a show I saw of books made by artists. A door opened onto a world I did not know existed and where I felt exhilarated, welcome and challenged.

What are artists’ books? The simplest description is that they are books, or book-like objects in which the primary interest is visual rather than textual.

I began timidly, making a tiny book of a huge painted firefly. My interests grew exponentially, and I made flag books, circle accordion books, pop-up books, and more.

The last one is a book in the shape of a pyramid, to keep secrets. As it cannot be opened, this book of secrets will only be read once it is broken into.

I am eager for the next book, and what comes after, and that is one of the best feelings there are, that blend of basic need, anxiety, curiosity and joy.
